    • In addition to the PDF report you can meet with one of our team to go over your results and discuss your test in greater detail. They will give you an overview of the report, discuss other trends seen in your test, and discuss actionable changes you can make to your training or diet.


Testing in Detail

PNOĒ Metabolic Assessment

This assessment includes two tests: a resting metabolic rate (RMR) test and an active ramp test. During the RMR test, we measure breathing frequency and gas concentrations (CO2 and O2) and heart rate at rest for 10 minutes. During the active ramp test, we measure the same variables in an active capacity (while running, cycling, rowing, etc.) by following an exercise protocol that progressively overloads your cardiovascular system.

The results of these tests provide us with information on cardiovascular and metabolic health. Some of the key insights include how your metabolism performs across varying intensities as well the measurements of your RMR (the baseline number of calories burned at rest), VO2 max (peak aerobic performance), anaerobic threshold, and heart rate training zones. Ultimately, these factors give us insight into what types and intensities of exercise will help you meet your specific goals most efficiently.

Participating in this testing will provide you with personalized information that will allow you to draw conclusions and make goals for your training based on real and tangible data. We will be able to provide you with actionable recommendations for your training and diet to improve your future performance. If you book for a subsequent assessment (which is highly recommended), you will be able to compare your results and see first-hand how your changes have affected your performance, allowing you to continue to fine-tune your habits and get closer to an optimized training and nutrition cycle.

Ian Cameron

Ian is a firefighter with the City of Windsor, having completed his Bachelor's in Kinesiology at the University of Toronto. Throughout his degree, he worked as a Combat Engineer in the military, which, combined with his educational background, led to working for Defence Research and Development Canada. Working in the Biomechanics division fuelled his passion for using technology to improve fitness and resulted in a deeper understanding of what is happening in the body when movement occurs. Through fire recruitment, Ian was subjected to many VO2 max tests, yet another measurable means of assessing movement beyond what can be seen.  It has been said that "what can be measured can be managed" and Ian hopes to take this further, believing that "what can be measured, can be improved."

Josh Zilles

Josh Zilles is a recent Master of Human Kinetics graduate from the University of Windsor where he tested varsity and professional athletes in anatomical and physiological metrics. He’s an avid runner and coach and is currently training for a marathon and working as an assistant coach for the University of Windsor Cross Country team. He can often be found running and coaching on the trails in Windsor Essex and reading up on studies related to shoe economy and VO2 max.

Dr. Harrison Oake, ND

Dr. Oake is dedicated to helping his clients feel their best, reach their goals, and optimize all aspects of their health and life. He is a general care practitioner who works closely with clients of all ages to ensure he provides the individualized care they need. Conditions he provides support for include but are not limited to: arthritis, digestive health, diabetes, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, hormonal issues, menopause and weight loss.

Dr. Oake also has a special interest in Performance and Sports Medicine, he wants to help individuals perform their best in the workplace, at home, on the court, and in life. As a retired varsity athlete, dedicated husband, and father of two girls, Dr. Oake understands the unique demands involved in many lifestyles.

Dr. Oake holds a Bachelor of Human Kinetics Degree, with a focus in Health Science, from the University of Windsor as well as a Doctor of Naturopathy Degree from the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine. Dr. Oake is a member of the Canadian Association of Naturopathic Doctors (CAND) and Ontario Association of Naturopathic Doctors (OAND). In addition, Dr. Oake is a Certified Intravenous Practitioner through the International Society of Sports Nutrition (ISSN) and passed additional testing to get his prescribing license.
